Exact Phrase

You can search for words in a particular order by selecting Exact Phrase in a Keyword Search or Advanced Search. You can also use quotes around the search terms to search for an exact phrase.

For example, if you want to find records that contain the phrase "social service," but don't select Exact Phrase or use quotes, your results will include all records that include the words "social" and "service" separately, whether or not the phrase "social service" appears in a record.

Exact Phrase Option

Examples:

  "Social service"

  "John Quincy Adams"

Tip: If you're searching for a phrase that contains a Boolean operator (for example "Cats and Dogs" or "It's not Fair"), you'll need to use quotes around your search terms -- don't select Exact Phrase for this type of search.
