What is the difference between searching for library materials and searching databases?

Searching in the Library Search tab links you to the library catalog -- which allows you to find the location and availability of books and other materials in your local college library or in other community college libraries throughout Florida. Once you've found an item you're interested in, write down or print the call number and locate the item on the library shelf. (You can also request the item from another library.)

You can search for titles of online resources in the Library Search tab or view a list by clicking the Databases A-Z, Databases by Subject, and Journals A-Z links.

Searching in the Article Search tab gives you access to dozens of electronic databases -- which gives you immediate online access to thousands of articles, journals, and newspapers. Many databases include the full text, so you can start reading online right away. You'll need to log in to use this feature.

What if I misspell a word? Will LINCCWeb make a spelling suggestion?

LINCCWeb will provide a spelling suggestion if the words you enter do not produce any results.

If you aren't sure about the ending of a word, or if you want to find results with variations of the word (like singular and plural spellings), you can use truncation, which replaces a letter in the word with a symbol that tells the system to look for different forms of the word. See Improving Your Results for more information on truncation.

Logging In & Getting Help ...

What is my Borrower ID and PIN? Do I need to log in to use LINCCWeb?

Your Borrower ID and PIN, assigned by your college library, give you access to extended features in LINCCWeb including requesting library items, searching for articles in online databases, and checking your account status. Once you sign in, any items you've added to your e-Shelf will still be there the next time you sign in.

If you have trouble logging in, ask your librarian to verify your Borrower ID and PIN.

Can I search LINCCWeb without a Borrower ID and PIN?

You can search LINCCWeb to locate books and other materials owned by Florida's community college libraries without logging in. However, you will need to log in with your Borrower ID and PIN to request items, search electronic databases, save information, and manage your library account.

I am having trouble logging in. What should I do?

If you have trouble logging in or accessing online resources, contact your local library staff for assistance.

Where can I find help? How do I ask a question about my library or LINCCWeb?

Online help ... Help is available from any screen within the system – just click the “Help” link at the top of the page. Also look for context-sensitive help along the way (for example, you'll find the help link "What is tagging?" close to the Tagging section of the screen).

Your local librarian ... If you find that you need additional help using LINCCWeb or locating material in your library, or have specific questions about your account, ask your librarian for assistance. Your librarian is knowledgeable about specific resources and search strategies and will be happy to help you locate material or give you advice on how to start your search and find the best results. Your library may also provide useful study guides or help sheets to get you started.

Ask a Librarian service ... You can also use Florida’s Ask a Librarian service to speak with a librarian through e-mail or live chat (during available hours). You'll speak with someone who can help answer a wide range of reference questions as well as provide guidance on useful resources and materials. Since Ask a Librarian is staffed by librarians across the state of Florida, they won’t be able to answer questions about your individual library account.
